Charlie Haden

Friend of Stephan Schertler (also bassist) Charlie Haden has been one of the greats of jazz bass of the last century.
Born in Shenandoah, United States, grew up in a family of musicians, who often performed together on the radio playing country music and american folk songs. Primarily known for his long collaboration with saxophonist Ornette Coleman, he also directed the Liberation Music Orchestra. Haden has been Grammy Award winner on three occasions, receiving an award for best jazz instrumental performance with his 1997 album with Pat Metheny Beyond the Missouri Sky, for Latin jazz album Nocturne of 2001 and the Land of the Sun 2004 with the Cuban pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba.

Numerous collaborations among which (besides the already mentioned Ornette Coleman) Keith Jarrett, Jan Garbarek, Pat Metheny, Michael Brecker, Chet Baker, Ginger Baker, Diana Krall, Norah Jones and many others that have led him to be protagonist of first magnitude on the international music scene until his death in Los Angeles on July 11, 2014.
