Eos Guitar Quartet

Whether it's classical music, jazz, rock or flamenco Eos Guitar Quartet are always at their ease in any context. Even the spanish public, renowned for its rigor in judgments, has bestowed them flattering appreciations on the occasion of the collaboration with the famous flamenco singer Carmen Linares.

Marcel Ege, Pirktl Martin, David Sautter and Michael Winkler met during the studying period at the Academy of Music in Zurich. They founded the quartet in 1985, gaining immediately a good success and good comments from experts and the specialized press.

Two factors represent the secret of their success: a program always stimulating and the absolute equality of value between the individual members. No one is soloist, each member works first of all for the group, in an alternation of protagonism and choral ensembles.

Regular guests in radio and television broadcasts the Eos Guitar Quartet also participate each year in the most prestigious international festivals such as Córdoba, the Menuhin Festival Gstaad or the Ludwigsburg Festival. They also organize the "In Guitar Festival", an important appointement realized in collaboration with the Casinotheater of Winterthur.

Many collaborations with other artists and composers, among the most important we can cite: Leo Brouwer, John McLaughlin, Ralph Towner, Sergio Assad and Roland Dyen.

A highlight in the history of the quartet has been the sold-out performance at the St. Jakobsstadion in Basel July 4, 1992 when they opened the concert of Elton John and Eric Clapton in front of 50,000 spectators.

Another very touching moment at the "In Guitar Festival" of 2013 in Winterthur, when the co-founder Martin Pirktl has performed with the group for the last time and, for the last song has given way on stage to the new member who would replaced him, the young argentine Julio Azcano.
